Weta, Nelvana give Jane the cgi treatment MIP NEWS - Canadian toon house Nelvana has unveiled details of its partnership with Weta Workshop: kids series Jane & the Dragon (26x30'), marking the New Zealand cgi studio's first foray into the kids TV sector. Weta, a four-time Oscar-winning sfx studio, and the Corus-owned animation company are to coproduce an adaptation of best-selling New Zealand author Martin Baynton's book of the same name. Set in Medieval times, Jane & the Dragon follows the exploits of a 13-year-old girl who has a giant green dragon living in her backyard. Aimed at the 6-11 set, the show "has a truly unique look and quality that will resonate with broadcasters and our audience,” said Scott Dyer, evp of production and development, Nelvana. Dyer will work with Weta's Richard Taylor to produce the show. Weta and its sister Weta Digital have previously worked on big screen smash Lord of the Rings, Master & Commander and The Last Samurai. The company is also working on upcoming films King Kong and The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe. Ed Waller 29 Mar 2004 © C21 Media 2004 C21 Home | C21 Kids Home | Printer Friendly | Email a Friend |
