Networks develop taste for Masterchef
Shine International has sold cookery format Masterchef into seven markets, penning deals with broadcasters in Greece, Romania and New Zealand. The format has been picked up by New Zealand's TV One, Romania's PRO TV, Greece's Mega and Fremantle Asia – the latter taking it for territories including Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore. In addition, Norway's TV3 has commissioned Shine Group prodco Rubicon to make a local version of the format. Masterchef is one of the top cooking formats in the UK, where it has been produced by Shine TV since 2005. French net TF1 recently commissioned Shine France to produce a primetime version. In addition, a US show – featuring TV chef Gordon Ramsay and produced by Reveille and Ramsay's One Potato Two Potato – is in production for Fox and will premiere this year. Shine International president Chris Grant said: "When we first obtained rights for Masterchef it had no international footprint, but we saw its potential as an extremely dynamic and adaptable format in one of the hottest categories on the market. "It is now the world's biggest cooking competition format and there are no signs of it slowing down as it heads into France and the US."
