Fox ignites Torchwood pilot script Fox has ordered a pilot script for a US version of BBC science fiction drama Torchwood, to be penned by Doctor Who scribe Russell T Davies. The pilot script is being ordered from BBC Worldwide Productions, and is one of the first major projects from the company's US-based drama team, headed by former BBC fiction chief Jane Tranter and former BBC Wales head of drama Julie Gardner. Both were involved in the successful revival of Doctor Who and both relocated to LA last year. Tranter took the role of exec VP of programming and production and Gardner became exec producer, with responsibility for scripted projects. "BBC Worldwide Productions has written a Torchwood pilot script for Fox," a BBC spokeswoman confirmed to C21. "It's too early to comment on any further details." The series, which is a spin-off from long-running sci-fi drama Doctor Who, launched in the UK on digital network BBC3 in 2006, transferring to conventional networks BBC2 and then BBC1 as its popularity grew. The show has already aired stateside on BBC America. Adam Benzine 20 Jan 2010 © C21 Media 2010
