Doc/Fest winners named DOC/FEST NEWS: The Blood of the Rose, a documentary about the life of conservationist Joan Root, was among the winners at this year's Sheffield International Documentary Festival. ![]() Blood of the Rose, a BBC Storyville doc about Root's life and death as she tried to protect Lake Naivasha in Kenya, received its premiere at the event over the weekend. In addition, Windfall Films’ Sons of Cuba - about the Havana Boxing Academy - picked up the Youth Jury Award. Other winners included: Videocracy, a film about Italy under Silvio Berlusconi and directed by Erik Gandini, which took away the special jury award; LoopLoop, a film about a train journey through Vietnam and directed by Patrick Bergeron, in the innovation category; and Adam Curtis, who picked up the inspiration award for work including recent interactive multi-platform project It Felt Like a Kiss, a collaboration with the Punchdrunk theatre company and the BBC. 9 Nov 2009 © C21 Media 2009
