The Banana Splits are back

Tra, la, la... Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky, aka The Banana Splits, are returning to TV screens, as Warner Brothers revives the classic 1960s kids series.

The musical quartet comprising a beagle, a gorilla, a lion and an elephant is being re-versioned by Warner Brothers consumer products department bringing back one of the catchiest tunes in TV history.

The 1960s Hanna Barbera phenomenon kicks off on September 2 with shorts and music videos airing on Cartoon Network. The re-launch also includes a web presence targeted at four to seven-year-olds.

Additionally, Universal Records will debut a CD and DVD featuring 13 new Banana Splits pop and rock songs, and music videos. Intended to appeal to kids and parents, the music and music videos will be offered online and incorporated in the Cartoon Network comedy shorts. Live performances and a range of licensing and merchandising initiatives will also be included.

"Everything that made The Banana Splits hugely popular in the '60s is back, including the group's terrific humor and hit music," said Jordan Sollitto, EVP of new business initiatives and international licensing, Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

"We take great pride in having carefully updated the look and feel of the original show for today's kids while retaining all of the elements that made the original Banana Splits such a hit."

The Splits first emerged on screens in 1968 as hosts of The Banana Splits Adventure Hour a show created by Hanna Barbera airing on NBC that featured comedy and music videos.
