Tandem links up for $6.4m sci-fi movie German broadcaster ProSieben and Sci Fi Channel in the US have partnered once more with Munich's Tandem Communications on a new sci-fi movie. Principal photography on TV event film Lost City Raiders, a story about "two brothers determined to salvage the past who instead find themselves fighting to save the future," begins next week, according to a Tandem spokeswoman. The US$6.4m movie, which continues Tandem's relationship with both ProSieben and Sci Fi Channel, features a cast drawn from both European and US agencies. James Brolin (Traffic, Category 7), Ian Somerhalder (Lost, Smallville), Bettina Zimmermann (PI – Post Impact, Pompei) and Michael Mendl (The Downfall, Pope John XXIII) are among those in lead roles. The new production follows a series of similar joint European/US projects initiated by Tandem, a strategy that has in recent years seen it turn out big-budget miniseries in both regions. The Company, starring Chris O'Donnell, Alfred Molina and Michael Keaton, aired on TNT in the US and ProSiebenSat.1 in Germany, while the Kristanna Loken-fronted mini Ring of The Nibelungs did big numbers on both Sci Fi Channel in the US and in Germany on ProSiebenSat.1. Tandem also partnered with Starz Entertainment for Loken-fronted Sci Fi Channel series, Painkiller Jane. "Tandem's international coproduction strategy makes perfect sense for us; we can be an instrumental part of big-budget event programmes with elements that are viable not only for the international market but also for the German market and our target audience," said Jürgen Hörner, ProSieben's head of programme planning. Director Jean de Segonzac (Law and Order: SVU, Mimic 2, Ice), will be behind the camera, while the movie will be produced by Christopher Morgan (Asteroid, Queen Sized), as well as Tandem co-MDs Rola Bauer and Tim Halkin. The film will be ready for delivery in October this year, distributed worldwide by Tandem. Antony Reeve-Crook 6 Mar 2008 © C21 Media 2008
