BBC3 unveils supernatural drama BBC3 has greenlit and unveiled the cast for its one-off supernatural youth drama Being Human, penned by Doctor Who and Torchwood scribe Toby Whithouse. Set to air on BBC3 early next year, the one-hour drama comes from RDF-owned Touchpaper Television and follows three young flatmates who just happen to be a vampire, a ghost and a werewolf. The cast includes new talent Guy Flanagan (Totally Frank), Andrea Riseborough (Margaret Thatcher: The Long Walk to Finchley), Russell Tovey (The History Boys) and Adrian Lester (Hustle). As well as being a hospital cleaner, good looking and laid back, Mitchell (Flanagan) is also a blood-sucking vampire. His friend George (Tovey) was heartbroken when he had to move away after his girlfriend discovered he transforms into a werewolf. Meanwhile, Annie (Riseborough) is their uninvited lodger – a ghost with a confidence crisis. The drama was commissioned by Danny Cohen, controller of BBC3, and Jane Tranter, controller of BBC Fiction. It recently reported by C21 as a pilot. Cohen said the show marked the "first step in the development of a new generation of youthful drama series" for the channel and leads the charge after the success of Bodies and Torchwood. Touchpaper's Rob Pursey is exec-producing the series with head of drama for BBC Wales Julie Gardner. It is written by Whithouse (Hotel Babylon, Doctor Who, Torchwood), produced by Matthew Bouch (The Sarah Jane Adventures) and directed by Declan O'Dwyer. Filming has started on location in Bristol for transmission in 2008. It is one of six new dramas that will show on BBC3 next year. The others are Phoo Action, West 10 LDN (working title), The Things I Haven't Told You, Mrs Inbetweeny and Dis/Connected. Jules Grant 7 Nov 2007 © C21 Media 2007 |
