US gameshow sets $10m prize Tontine Productions in the US has started work on a new lottery-based reality gameshow offering 15 contestants a chance to take home a cool US$10m. Tontine will be fronted by former Survivor contestant Rob Mariano, with Hollywood casting director Tad Frank (Survivor, The Amazing Race, The Bachelor) on board to produce. No network is attached so far. The show is based on a tontine investment vehicle, with contestants each contributing to a fund that is paid out in full to the last remaining member. From next month and throughout the summer, Mariano, Frank and the Tontine Productions casting team will travel to US cities looking for 15 "great game players who are also risk takers," according to Frank. Once the contestants have been selected, each will be given a key that can unlock part of the US$10m fortune. Each member of the tontine then undertakes 100 days of mental and physical challenges, battling for possession of the keys held by their fellow competitors. The games end when one person possesses all 15 keys and takes home the prize money. Antony Reeve-Crook 20 Jun 2007 © C21 Media 2007 |
