Tennant to star in new BBC comedy drama David Tennant (Doctor Who, Blackpool) is to star in a new comedy drama for BBC1 called Learners, which is written by and will also star Shaun of the Dead actress Jessica Hynes (nee Stevenson). Described by the Beeb as a "bitter sweet" comedy drama, Learners follows the trials and tribulations of a group of learner drivers and has been commissioned by Jane Tranter, controller of BBC Fiction. Hynes (Spaced) plays a downtrodden wife who has failed her driving test eight times. Shaun Dingwall (Doctor Who) plays her husband, while Sarah Hadland (Confetti) plays a glamorous driving school owner. Tennant stars as a devout Christian driving instructor, and Hynes's love interest.Learners will start filming in April on location in Hertfordshire and will transmit later this year. The drama is exec produced by David Thompson; the director is Francesca Joseph (Tomorrow La Scala!, Four Last Songs). C21 recently reported that Tennant is also working on telemovie Einstein & Eddington with the BBC and HBO, starring alongside Andy Serkis. It is to be produced by Shameless indie Company Pictures.
