Player X takes 80s classics mobile UK mobile entertainment producer Player X has expanded its relationship with Universal Mobile Entertainment by producing mobile video content based on hit 80s TV shows Knight Rider and Magnum PI. Player X has been expanding into the US of late, building on recent deals with Universal Studios and Fox, but claims that this latest move is the first time a major Hollywood studio has allowed its established brands to be adapted for mobile. The new genre, dubbed 'retrosodes' by Player X, will take the form of a suite of animated video series made for mobile, consisting of 10 original shorts of up to two minutes each, adapted to handsets and channel requirements for a tongue-in-cheek approach to the shows that made household names of Michael Knight and Thomas Magnum.Player X will produce and distribute the shorts through its direct distribution deals with more than 85 global carriers, launching across all networks in early 2007. "Retrosodes represent the best concept in shortform, made-for-mobile storytelling we've ever seen," said Jeremy Laws, senior VP at Universal Mobile Entertainment. "We think this is a great opportunity to break through the clutter of repurposed content and do something fresh and relevant with some great classic brands."
