Lost finds 183 homes outside the US LA SCREENINGS: Lost, the hit drama series for ABC in the US, is also making history for Buena Vista International Television. Licensed to broadcasters in over 180 territories worldwide, it has become BVITV's fastest-selling TV series in the company’s history. Launched in April on Germany's ProSieben at 20.15, Lost premiered as number one for its time period, earning 12 points above average for the slot. Similar performances were delivered for earlier launches, including TVNorge in Norway, where the show earned a 38.5% share among people 12+ for its February debut at 21.30. TV4 in Sweden earned a 16.2 rating with adults 25-39, a 119% increase over the channel’s average for the time period, when it debuted Lost on February 2 at 21.00. In Australia, where the show airs on Seven Network at 20.30, the premiere episode was the second largest premiere performance of any series in Australian history, behind only Desperate Housewives. On TV2 New Zealand, Lost’s two-hour premiere at 20.30 was 22 share points above the network’s average and earned an impressive 66.6% share among the coveted 25 to 39 demographic. In Latin America, the programme had simultaneous airings on both Sony Entertainment Channel and AXN and averaged the highest ratings in its time period. When Lost debuted on KBS2 in South Korea last December, the show grew the channel's total audience for the time period by 135%, increasing its share of total viewers by 77% compared to the channel’s previous four-week performance. And Tom Toumazis, executive vice president and managing director, BVITV, EMEA, and Steve Macallister, senior vice president and managing director, BVITV Asia-Pacific, are looking forward to Lost premieres on Channel 4 in the UK and TF1 France this summer, on AXN Japan in the fall, as well as on RAI Italy, TVE Spain, and VT4 Belgium. Toumazis said: “Lost’s international appeal lies with its tightly-woven storylines that keep viewers on the edge of their seats, its spectacular production - on a par with that of a feature film, plus an internationally-recognised cast. We look forward to working with our broadcasters in growing its success across the globe, as there are many more international launches to come for this show.” Lost, one of the breakout hits for ABC in the US this past 04/05 season, is along with Desperate Housewives credited with turning the previously failing network around. The series follows the survivors of a plane crash, stranded together on a remote, hostile island. As the group works together to stay alive and create order in their makeshift community, there appear to be darker forces at work against them. The series features an international cast including Naveen Andrews (The English Patient), Emile de Ravin, Matthew Fox (Party of Five), Jorge Garcia, Maggie Grace, Josh Holloway, Malcolm David Kelley, Daniel Dae Kim (Spider-Man 2), Yunjin Kim (Shiri), Evangeline Lilly, Dominic Monaghan (Lord of the Rings trilogy), Terry O’Quinn (Alias), Harold Perrineau (Oz), and Ian Somerhalder. The series is from executive producers JJ Abrams, Damon Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Carlton Cuse and Jack Bender. Lost is filmed on location in Hawaii, and is produced by Touchstone Television.
