AETN culls staff after merger A&E Television Networks (AETN) has laid off 10% of its workforce following its merger with female-skewing US cabler Lifetime in August. Redundancies are thought to be across the board, with departments like marketing, publicity and human resources hardest hit. One hundred out of about 1,000 heads are expected to roll. Programming staff out in the reshuffle include Lifetime head of reality Jessica Samet and head of casting Rick Jacobs.Execs set to stay include Lifetime CEO Andrea Wong, Lifetime executive VP of entertainment JoAnn Alfano and VP of distribution Lori Conkling, who will work alongside AETN's VP of distribution David Zagin. Under the new structure, Lifetime is being brought into the AETN fold alongside A&E and History Channel under AETN president and CEO Abbe Raven, following AETN's acquisition of Lifetime two months ago. The combined company is jointly owned by Disney-ABC and Hearst Corp, each of whom hold a 42.5% stake, and NBC Universal, controlling the remaining 15.5%. Jules Grant 9 Nov 2009 © C21 Media 2009
