NHNZ orangutans swing onto Animal Planet New Zealand producer NHNZ's Orangutan Island (13x30'), commissioned by Animal Planet, will make its international debut in the third quarter of 2008. The series takes the form of a docudrama played out in the rainforests of Borneo, and will be broadcast in the same primetime slot as the third season of Oxford Scientific Films' international hit Meerkat Manor. Each episode follows a group of 35 orangutans after their rehabilitation at the Nyaru Menteng Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, to trace the trials they face as they forge a community on a 100-acre protected island sanctuary. NHNZ has used archive footage to revisit the rescues of the individual orangutans, combining this with footage of their development in the present day, providing insights into their personalities. The series began production last December and made its US debut last Friday. Antony Reeve-Crook 7 Nov 2007 © C21 Media 2007 |
