New C4 series uses Japanese ingredients

UK terrestrial Channel 4 (C4) has commissioned RDF Scotland subsidiary IWC Media to create a weekly cook-off series based on a Japanese format.

The 25x60' series will run over five weeks and is based on Fuji Television's Iron Chef. The format sees teams of amateur chefs taking on four resident professionals in a number of tasks based on a random main ingredient, with the best competitors from both teams taking part in a cook-off on Friday for a cash prize.

C4 has scheduled the show to take the 17.00 slot daily in spring 2010.

IWC will produce it in-house with creative director Adam MacDonald exec producing. The production is his first major project since joining from ITV in the summer.

MacDonald is best known for commissioning C4 series Come Dine With Me and Deal or No Deal.

IWC's Susy Price will produce the new series.

Since first airing on Fuji, Iron Chef has also gone to Food Network in the US where it has become a popular primetime show. IWC has international format rights to the UK show and is seeking more international broadcast partners.
