Eyeworks, De Bont to adapt novels for TV MIP NEWS: Eyeworks has teamed up with producer/director Jan De Bont to develop a television series based on Georges Simenon’s psychological novels. Belgian-born Simenon, known for his crime novels featuring Commissaire Maigret, also wrote a number of psychological novels, which Eyeworks and De Bont (Speed, Twister, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life) will now turn into a thriller/mystery anthology series, aimed initially at the US market. The project also involves Gerhard Schmidt of Eyeworks affiliate Eyeworks Cologne-Gemini Film Germany, tapping the German arm’s established pedigree in TV movies and series production. The series is executive produced by both Eyeworks and Jan De Bont.Reinout Oerlemans, CEO of Eyeworks, said Jan De Bont’s involvement will mean “we are on our way to producing a hugely successful television format.” A fan of Simenon's work, De Bont said: “Simenon's stories don't have the high-tech tricks of many contemporary writers; they are solely based on very unique and recognisable characters and situations whose life suddenly gets turned upside down. His books are perfectly suited to be the base for a thriller/mystery series that will have appeal all over the world.” Gün Akyuz 1 Apr 2009 © C21 Media 2009 |
