Lopez in NBCU development deal Universal Media Studios (UMS), the TV production arm of NBC Universal (NBCU), has signed a two-year development deal with actress and singer Jennifer Lopez via her company Nuyorican Productions. The exclusive first-look deal is aimed at creating a variety of different television products for NBCU's channels.Ben Silverman, co-chair of NBC Entertainment and UMS, called Lopez a "multi-faceted superstar," saying: "NBC has been fortunate to have worked with her previously with her music specials, and now this first-look deal gives us an opportunity to explore a variety of projects that will result in some outstanding television." Lopez said: "UMS is the perfect home for Nuyorican and I look forward to a successful creative partnership." Lopez and her business partner Simon Fields have had mixed success with their television projects. Nuyorican's first effort, Paramount TV drama South Beach, was panned by critics and shunned by viewers during an eight-episode run on now-defunct channel UPN in early 2006. Reality series Dancelife, however, fared better on cablenet MTV. The company has also produced a Spanish-language Lopez vehicle, miniseries Como Ama una Mujer, for US Hispanic network Univision. It is also behind Lopez films such as El Cantante, Bordertown and Shall We Dance, Nuyorican's biggest success to date. Emily Brookes 29 Oct 2008 © C21 Media 2008 |
