No Televisa content for Univision VoD Mexico media giant Grupo Televisa has fired the latest shot in its ongoing rights dispute with Univision, saying that the US Hispanic network cannot include Televisa programming on its on-demand service, set to launch in January. ![]() Although Televisa was not explicitly mentioned, much of Univision's entertainment content – around 15 hours of primetime every week – is made up of acquired Televisa programming under a long-existing deal between the two players. Televisa, however, is looking to end that arrangement as the rights dispute, dating back to the terms of a contract signed in 1992, heads to court on July 1. In a statement released after Univision's Cable Show announcement, the conglomerate said: "Televisa's programme license agreement with Univision does not confer upon Univision any video-on-demand rights with respect to Televisa's content, including its primetime telenovelas, series, shows or any other Televisa programming, nor to Mexican Soccer League matches licensed by Televisa to Univision." That means that Univision won't be able to offer any of its top-rating primetime telenovelas in its VoD service. The net seems positive about its future with Televisa, however. Last week, it released a 2008/09 schedule dominated, as usual, by acquired Televisa content. Emily Brookes 22 May 2008 © C21 Media 2008
