Comedy Central bites back with spoof show

US cablenet Comedy Central has announced its summer 2008 schedule, which includes one-off specials and new original series such as über-spoof Reality Bites Back.

Hosted by comedian Michael Ian Black, Reality Bites Back pits 10 comics against one another in episodic parodies of network reality shows. The spoofs include Shock of Love, The Biggest Chubby, Almost-American Gladiators, So You Think You Can Dive?, Hunting with the Stars and The Amazing Disgrace.

Reality Bites Back will air in a Thursday 22.00 slot from July 17, followed half an hour later by Comedy Central's previously reported revival of The Gong Show.

New late-night clip show Atom TV, meanwhile, born out of Comedy Central's partnership with user-generated video site Atom.com, will feature a selection of the funniest videos uploaded to the site. It premieres in its 02.00 slot on June 2.

The cablenet will also debut a number of comedy-themed specials over the coming months. These include a live gig from stand-up star Carlos Mencia, on Sunday May 18 at 21.00, and another from Jimmy Dore, at 23.00 on Friday August 1. Also scheduled is the network premiere of the South Park Imaginationland movie trilogy, on Sunday July 27 at 22.00.

Series returning to Comedy Central's line-up include Mind of Mencia, Lewis Black's Root of All Evil, Reno 911! and Live at Gotham.
