Endemol makes mobile thriller
MIPCOM: Endemol is to produce a new made-for-mobile blockbuster thriller for mobile platform operator 02.
 Cell (20x2') will be produced in association with Mobstar Media and is set to premiere exclusively on O2's mobile network this December, followed by distribution online and with other mobile operators in the UK and around the world.
Endemol UK is working closely with O2 to find other distribution partners for Cell, both in the UK and worldwide.
"What makes Cell a first is that we're applying production values normally associated with TV or film to a made-for-mobile series," said Pasa Mustafa, digital content producer at Endemol UK.
Cell follows two parallel stories about the same man who is locked in a lawless prison, with no idea how or why and no hope of escape. All he has is a cell phone and a mystery caller. In the parallel story, the same man is also a wealthy Columbian, whose friend betrays him, leaving him with a life-changing choice.
This is Endemol's second collaboration with O2, which last year yielded the first interactive made-for-mobile TV show, Get Close To… Sugababes. The show debuted at the top of the O2 download charts and stayed in the top 10 for the remainder of its six-week run.
