Africa Channel gets a slam-dunk US satcaster The Africa Channel, which launches in the UK this week, has picked up the rights to the 24th African Nations Men's Basketball Championship. The deal signals a move into the sports genre for the channel, which features content about and from the African continent, and will see the launch of sub-brand Africa Channel Sports. The event will be the first sport to appear under the new sub-brand when the tournament begins this month. The championship is held every two years and consists of 12 African nations, this year competing for the chance to represent Africa at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It will be broadcast live in more than 40 African countries and will be available exclusively on The Africa Channel in the US and UK, where it debuted on the Sky platform today.
