BET puts money on July series Black Entertainment Television (BET) is continuing its push into original programming with five new series, due to kick-off throughout July. BET Networks, which claims to reach more than 84 million households in the US, Canada and the Caribbean, has announced five original shows scheduled to join its primetime line-up, touted as the network's 'July Jump Off.' From July 9, reality series Hell Date and Baldwin Hills; hidden camera show Socially Offensive Behaviour (SOB); interactive game show Take The Cake; and Hot Ghetto Mess, a "hilarious video clip show with powerful social commentary," will air on the Viacom-owned network. Reginald Hudlin, president of entertainment at BET Networks, said: "BET Networks is serious about our commitment to original programming, and this is just the jump-off to what will be our most ambitious slate in history." BET's overseas distribution arm was recently revived after Viacom acquired the business in 2000, and was last month granted a UK broadcast licence by media regulator Ofcom.
