CBS rebuilds walls of Jericho US network CBS has bowed under the weight of public opposition to its cancellation of apocalyptic drama series Jericho with an order for seven new episodes, due to air in the mid-season next year. Announcing the recommission to fans, CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said: "Over the past few weeks you have put forth an impressive and probably unprecedented display of passion in support of a primetime television series. You got our attention; your emails and collective voice have been heard." Tassler said that "a loyal and passionate community has clearly formed around the show," but added that that community needs to grow. "It needs to grow on the CBS Television Network, as well as on the many digital platforms where we make the show available. In success, there is the potential for more. But for there to be more Jericho, we will need more viewers." In the interim, CBS is working on several initiatives to help introduce the show to new audiences, including re-broadcasting original episodes of the series this summer and making a big content push online. In addition the first season DVD will be released on September 25. The turnaround echoes back to Fox's re-commission of Family Guy, the series cancelled in 2000 and again in 2002, but revived in 2005 thanks to strong DVD sales and rerun viewership on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Jericho, produced by CBS Paramount Network Television, revolves about the residents of a rural Kansas town, in the wake of a series of nuclear attacks on the US's major cities.
