BBCWW hustles US cable deal Two of the BBC's new flagship dramas have gone into major overseas markets: Hustle has conned its way on to US cable, while Doctor Who has beamed into Germany. US channel AMC has collared Hustle from BBC Worldwide Americas. The deal gives AMC exclusive rights to the first and second series, as well as a coproduction partnership for series three with an option for series four. The Kudos Film and TV series will premiere on AMC in January 2006 in letterbox format, adding America to the 30-plus territories into which the glossy con artist drama has already sold. “Hustle is the epitome of cinematic cool, a tribute to the great heist and caper films of the past, which will fit perfectly within our slate of original programmes," said Rob Sorcher, executive VP at AMC. "Like recent films such as Oceans 11 and The Italian Job, film fans will love this series.” With the stateside pick-up, Hustle is following in the footsteps the other major drama made by Kudos for BBC1, Spooks, which airs in the US on A&E under the title MI5. “Securing the right platform is essential for a series to succeed in the competitive US market. We believe that AMC’s commitment to quality scripted series and wide audiences will make it the perfect home for Hustle in the US," said Candace Carlisle, senior VP at BBC Worldwide Americas. Meanwhile, BBC Worldwide has licensed the new Doctor Who series to German commercial broadcaster ProSieben, in a deal covering both new seasons of the BBC/CBC sci-fi copro.
