US network dishes up multi-channel service US satellite TV provider DISH Network is launching a new interactive service allowing audiences to watch multiple channels simultaneously. Following the lead set by Sky Digital and the BBC in the UK, EchoStar-owned DISH has unveiled a six-screen 'mosaic' featuring networks such as CNN, E! Entertainment and Court TV. The DISH Home channel presents these third-party networks in the same way as Sky News, for example, lines up a selection of eight streams of its coverage, accessible via the 'red button.' The BBC achieved some of its best results with such technology during last year's Olympics, when some 9m people used the interactive video menu to choose which events they followed. DISH also launched a mosaic around the Olympics and for the 2004 presidential campaign, but the new service gives it a permanent presence on the platform. "The new format of DISH Home is a great way for viewers to watch their favourite TV channel and up-to-the-minute news, all from one place," said Susan Arnold, DISH Network vp of programming.
