Lucas targets TV, live-action Star Wars series

Star Wars creator and Lucasfilm chairman, George Lucas will use his new Singaporean cgi studio to house Clone Wars (left), the upcoming animated TV series adapted from his Star Wars trilogy.

Speaking at the Siggraph 2005 conference in Los Angeles earlier this week, Lucas told the audience of computer graphic designers and artists that his company is not only building up his Singaporean studio, now run by former DreamWorks Animation production exec Chris Kubsch, but also confirmed that he is developing a live-action series for television that's also based on the Star Wars films.

Turning his focus to television programming, which he referred to as “a great world to experiment in without much downside," Lucas said: “I have hundreds of projects I want to do, and I'm running out of time, I'm afraid to say. It's a different way of dealing with filmmaking. It's not going to be too much longer before people look back at films and say: 'That was so 19th century.’”

Lucas, whose credits also include Raiders of the Lost Ark, said that he’s also planning to set up a school to teach students computer-generated animation techniques at San Francisco’s new digital production facility that opened in the Presidio in June, and now houses many of the area’s production groups.
