C4 exec fills BBC comedy post The BBC's ongoing search for its new comedy commissioning team has led to Horseferry Road, where Channel 4's commissioning editor for comedy & entertainment has agreed to jump ship to White City. Katie Taylor has been appointed as executive editor of BBC Comedy Entertainment, it was announced by the Corporation today. She arrives at the new position next month reporting to Jane Lush, controller of entertainment commissioning. The position Taylor fills is intended to work with both inhouse and indie commissions, and is the result of the latest commissioning team changes in response to the recent Content Supply, Out of London and Value for Money reviews. ![]() With Taylor in place, the new triumvirate at the top of BBC entertainment commissioning will be complete. Taylor is joined by executive editor for mainstream entertainment Jon Beazley and executive editor of format entertainment Fenia Vardanis. Taylor today said her main challenges in the BBC job would be "commissioning modern, witty and must-see comedy and entertainment formats, and bringing fresh talent both on and off screen to the BBC." Taylor's Channel 4 credits include late night strip V Graham Norton, Derren Brown – Trick of the Mind and The Messiah, and Sky1 copro David Blaine - Above the Below. Before joining Channel 4 in 1995, she worked in production and research for indies and the BBC. In other news, comedy editor Kenton Allen is remaining in the production post, despite being offered the still vacant head of comedy commissioning position. That post will be supported by a second new post, that of commissioning editor for comedy, Out of London. This Glasgow-based position will have a dedicated £9m annual budget.
