C4 'adult-skewed' animation sells down under

A new 2D adult-skewing animation is heading for the UK and Australia; produced by the team behind The Office, Goodness Gracious Me and V Graham Norton.

Bromwell High, a (13x30’) copro between the UK’s Hat Trick Productions and Canada’s Decode, is set to air on the UK’s C4 later this year and also Australia’s ABC and Comedy Channel. ABC is also acquiring home video rights for Australia and New Zealand.

Set in an under-funded, overcrowded, graffiti-scarred secondary school in London, It follows the exploits of three unruly teen girls: Keisha Marie, who has more brawn than brain and a big voice to match her personality; Latrina, a brazen blonde with a head for sex and Natella, who is a brainy born leader who uses her intelligence to manipulate both pupils and staff.

The trio are a new breed of young ‘laydeez’, spending their time snatching credit cards, flirting with the bus conductor and causing havoc as soon as they enter the school gates.

The show is scripted by Richard Osman, Richard Pinto and Sharat Sardana.UK comedy names such as Nina Conti (winner of BBC new comedy awards 2002) Stephen Merchant ( co-creator and co-writer of The Office) and Doon Mackichan (Smack the Pony) form the cast.

Dominique Bazay, vp distribution at Decode Entertainment said that the company was looking forward to more worldwide sales: “We’re confident this hilarious new adult skewed series will be a huge hit for the ABC and Comedy Channel. Reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.”
