New Zealand cooks up Bake Off

The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4 in the UK

MIPTV: New Zealand is to become the latest territory to air its own version of hit UK format Bake Off, with TVNZ and Warner Bros partnering on the series.

The Great Kiwi Bake Off will be produced by Warner Bros International Television Producton in New Zealand for commercially funded, state-owned broadcaster TVNZ.

It will be based on the Love Productions competition format that originally aired on the BBC in the UK before a high-profile, big-money switch to rival Channel 4 in 2016.

The elimination format pitches amateur bakers against each other in weekly tests of their skills. Series judges and hosts are yet to be announced for the Kiwi version but a casting call has gone out to find 12 contestants to take part.

The format, which has been remade around the world, is distributed by BBC Studios. Earlier this year US broadcast network ABC pulled its version after allegations of misconduct were made against presenter Johnny Iuzzini.

The British version airs in New Zealand on commercial net Prime.
