New programme chiefs for Syfy, USA

NBCUniversal’s cable entertainment arm continues to shuffle its channel execs after replacing the head of development at Syfy with a USA Network exec.

Bill McGoldrick will become Syfy’s new exec VP of original content and replaces Mark Stern, who has been in the role for 11 years but is now set to become exec producer on a new show for the channel.

McGoldrick’s remit includes development and production of Syfy’s original programming, as well as oversight of international coproductions. He will also work with Universal Pictures on Syfy Films’ theatrical development.

He was most recently exec VP of original scripted programming at USA Network, where he developed series including Suits and Graceland.

He is being replaced there by Jackie de Crinis, who has been named exec VP of original programming. In her newly-created role, de Crinis will look after all production and development of original programming, including scripted and unscripted series.

She most recently looked after scripted programming and pilot productions at the channel, which she joined in 2000.

Bonnie Hammer, chairman of NBCU’s cable division, said: “With this move, Bill expands his development responsibilities while he gets to satisfy a not-so-secret passion for the genre. Jackie, who’s done a fantastic job at USA, gets to take on a well-deserved leadership role.”

McGoldrick will report to Syfy president Dave Howe and de Crinis will report to USA president Chris McCumber.

The changes are the latest developments at NBCU following Hammer’s reorganisation of the firm’s cable entertainment division in September.
