New Common Features production for BBC2

The venture between BBC Drama and the Film Council's New Cinema Fund for the development of new films continues with a new film commissioned for BBC2.

A Common Features Production financed by the BBC, the Film Council, Yorkshire Media Production Agency and the Northern Production Fund, Entering Blue Zone began filming in Manchester last week.

Entering Blue Zone is to star Kate Ashfield (Late Night Shopping, Crime and Punishment), David Morrissey (Linda Green, Captain Correlli's
Mandolin) and Peter Mullan (My Name is Joe, Orphans).

Directed by Sarah Gavron and produced by Stuart Mackinnon, it is the story of a premature baby's fragile existence, and of a mother's
supreme trust and tragic betrayal.

Rosemary Kay's screenplay was awarded the BBC's Dennis Potter Screenwriting Award. Entering Blue Zone is an adaptation of her novel Between Two Eternities.

The first film to be made under the joint venture, Francesca Joseph's Tomorrow La Scala!, was selected for Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival, and will also be shown on BBC2.
