The sales arm of Danish public broadcaster DR is continuing to shop its political drama Borgen around the world with new buyers including broadcasters in Australia and Estonia.

SBS Australia has picked up season one of the series, which follows the personal and political life of a fictional Danish female prime minister.

Two seasons have been shown so far in Denmark, each comprising 10 hour-long episodes. French-language Swiss network RTS has signed up for both seasons, while German-language Swiss channel SRF is also in for the first season.

Furthermore, ERR TV in Estonia has acquired both season one and two, and the forthcoming third and final season, which is due to air on DR in 2013.

Borgen, which stars Sidse Babett Knudsen as prime minister Birgitte Nyborg (above), won the international Bafta earlier this year. It has previously sold to BBC4 in the UK, VRT in Belgium, Arte in France and NPB in the Netherlands.

Helene Aurø, head of international sales at DR, said sales of the series had been boosted by its popular and critical acclaim since airing in the UK. “We’ve had a lot of interest in Borgen, especially as it has done so well on BBC4,” she told C21. “We have interest from all around the world.”
