Netherlands’ NPO3 takes True Selfie

Ducth channel NPO3 is remaking a Norwegian format that explores mental health issues and therapy.

Magnify Media holds the rights to True Selfie

True Selfie follows eight young people with mental health issues from two perspectives: their self-filmed video diaries and group therapy sessions. The 6×30′ Dutch series is being produced by Endemol Shine-owned Simpel Media.

The format has already been optioned by Bristow Global Media in English-speaking Canada, by Trio Orange in French-speaking Canada and in Sweden by Elk Productions.

It is sold by UK-based distribution and rights-management firm Magnify Media, which has also agreed deals with ITV Studios in Finland and United Productions in Denmark.

The show was produced originally by Oslo-based Anti for NRK in Norway, where it aired in April. A second season has been commissioned.

Magnify has also agreed a distribution deal with Anti for its new scripted format Where is Thea?, which airs on TV2 in Norway.

The multi-platform drama begins with a blog put out by the lead character who is searching for her missing flatmate, Thea. Social media, TV2’s on-demand service Sumo and the linear TV network are then used to tell the story of the search, blurring reality and fiction.

It is the latest addition for Magnify, which agreed a deal last month with companies including Banijay in the Nordics and Tuvalu Media in the Netherlands for rights to home-improvement format When a Designer Knocks.
