Netflix taps Apatow for romcom

US streaming service Netflix has ordered two seasons of a relationship comedy co-created and co-written by comedian and actor Judd Apatow.

The first season of Love (10×30′) is set to debut in all Netflix territories in 2016, while its second (12×30′) will follow the year after.

The series, created and written by Apatow (Knocked Up) alongside Paul Rust and Lesley Arfin (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Girls), will be produced by Legendary Television and Apatow Productions. Brent Forrester (The Office, The Simpsons) will executive produce.

It stars Gillian Jacobs (Community) and Rust (Inglorious Basterds) as a couple experiencing intimacy, commitment, and “other things they were hoping to avoid.”

The VoD giant’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said Apatow, who exec produces HBO’s Girls and also co-wrote The 40 Year Old Virgin, has “a unique comedic voice that manages to be delightful, insightful, and shockingly frank, often at the same time.”
