Medici: Masters of Florence was shot in English and stars Dustin Hoffman

Netflix has acquired rights to Renaissance period drama Medici: Masters of Florence for a select number of territories.

The Rai drama, which stars Dustin Hoffman, will premiere as a Netflix original in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada and India, starting December 9.

The 8×60’ series was co-created by Frank Spotniz (The Man in the High Castle) and Nicholas Meyer. It is produced by Lux Vide in collaboration with Spotnitz’s Big Light Productions and Wild Bunch.

Medici is set in 15th century  Florence and follows the battle for supremacy after a leading family’s patriarch is murdered.

Broadcasters and streamers in France, Germany, Australia and Japan have previously picked up the series.

The Netflix deal was secured by WME on behalf of Lux Vide with Wild Bunch TV handling the rest of the worldwide sales for the series.
