The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story

Netflix has taken the global streaming rights to FX’s American Crime Story following a deal with 20th Century Fox Television Distribution.

The first season of the show, The People v O.J. Simpson, will be added to the US SVoD service in 2017, with more seasons to follow once they have aired on linear television. Canada is the only territory excluded from the agreement.

The acquisition marks Netflix’s first global SVoD licensing deal with 20th Century Fox Television Distribution, and follows the streamer’s order for more episodes of Emmy-nominated true crime documentary Making a Murderer last week.

The People v O.J. Simpson, produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions, received 22 Emmy nominations earlier this month.

In related news, Netflix is set to launch a film based on the Panama Papers data leak.

The company has acquired exclusive rights to The Panama Papers: Breaking the Story of How the World’s Rich and Powerful Hide Their Money, the recently published book by German journalists Frederik Obermaier and Bastian Obermayer.

The Panama documents exposed how members of the super-rich avoid taxation.

Over the weekend, Netflix announced it was reviving cult science-fiction hit Mystery Science Theater 3000 for its members in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. The California-based firm also renewed animated comedy BoJack Horseman for a fourth run.
