Global streaming giant Netflix is moving into the competition formats space for the first time with a series produced by Sylvester Stallone.

Stallone and 25/7 Productions’ Dave Broome are executive producing 10-parter Ultimate Beastmaster for the SVoD service.

The show will debut in six territories – the US, Brazil, Germany, Japan, South Korea and Mexico – with each version featuring local hosts and athletes.

Each episode will show 12 competitors, two from each country, battling a demanding obstacle course named The Beast. The nine winners over the course of the first season will return to fight for the championship in the final episode.

A premiere date for the series has not been announced but it will launch simultaneously on Netflix in the six initial territories.

Erik Barmack, VP of international originals at Netflix, said: “As a global internet TV network, Netflix can uniquely create a compelling event that pits great competitors from six countries against one another, with commentators that audiences from these countries love, and then unleash all of the episodes at once, in multiple languages, for our members to enjoy no matter where they are.”
