Netflix reboots Mystery, renews BoJack

The release of BoJack Horseman's second season was soon followed by the confirmation of a third run

A fourth season of BoJack Horseman has been confirmed

Netflix is to revive cult science fiction hit Mystery Science Theater 3000 for its members in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK, and has renewed animated comedy BoJack Horseman.

The US SVoD service acquired the reboot following a successful Kickstarter campaign, which saw Shout! Factory acquire the rights to the show and partner with series creator Joel Hodgson.

Mystery Science Theater 3000, which follows a man and his robot sidekicks, premiered in 1988 on a local Minnesota station before going on to air on Comedy Central for six seasons. Syfy picked the show up for another threes run until it was cancelled in 1999.

Its new season is executive produced by Hodgson, Richard Foos, Bob Emmer, Garson Foos, Jonathan Stern, Harold Buchholz and Elliott Kalan, along with Satellite of Love, LLC, Alternaversal Productions and Abominable Pictures.

Meanwhile, Netflix has renewed its original animated series BoJack Horseman for a fourth season.

The show follows the equine star of a fictional 1990s family sitcom and hails from Michael Eisner’s animation studio Tornante Company and LA-based ShadowMachine. Its third season has just landed on the streamer.

In related news, the name of the forthcoming Netflix and CBS Star Trek television series has been announced as Star Trek: Discovery.

It comes as Netflix teamed up with Polygon Pictures on deal for the forthcoming anime original film Blame!, to premiere exclusively on the streaming service globally.
