Netflix organises Marie Kondo series

Global streamer Netflix has ordered an eight-part unscripted series from professional organising mogul Marie Kondo.

The as-yet untitled project, which will be produced by US prodco The Jackal Group, will see Kondo guide people who are seeking to improve their quality of life and personal productivity by organising their homes.

Kondo, a prolific author and organising consultant, has sold more than 8.5 million copies of her books – including The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up – which promote her self-created KonMari method of organising.

This involves individuals gathering all their belongings, one category at a time, and keeping only those things that “spark joy.” Subsequently, the individuals choose a place in their home for all the carefully selected items.

The series will be exec produced by Kondo, Gail Berman and Joe Earley for The Jackal Group, along with Takumi Kawahara and Bianca Barnes-Williams (The Real Housewives), with the latter attached as showrunner.

“We’ve seen individuals undergo astonishing and moving personal journeys simply by applying Marie’s approach to their own homes,” Berman said.

In related news, Netflix has cancelled marijuana-themed comedy Disjointed after one season.

The show, which stars Kathy Bates as a lifelong advocate for cannabis legalisation realising her dream as the owner of a weed dispensary in LA, received a 20-episode first season order from the streamer but was poorly received by critics.

Disjointed was produced by Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with Chuck Lorre and David Javerbaum serving as writers and executive producers.
