Netflix orders Popples, adds Blinders

US streaming service Netflix has ordered a children’s show based on the 1980s animated Popples characters, and picked up UK drama Peaky Blinders.

Popples (26×30′), which will be available to Netflix subscribers worldwide, is an animated series following the adventures of the brightly coloured creatures that transform from fluffy balls to furry creatures.

The show is being produced by Saban Brands with ZAG Entertainment, and will be available to subscribers from late 2015.

Popples was first introduced in 1985 as a successful toy line before being turned into a Saturday morning TV show by DIC Entertainment and LBS Communications.

Meanwhile crime drama Peaky Blinders, which is about to commence a second season on BBC2 in the UK, will make its US debut on the Netflix platform, with the first season available from September 30.

Endemol Worldwide Distribution has international sales rights to the series, which is produced by Caryn Mandabach Productions and Endemol-owned Tiger Aspect Productions.

Season two will launch on Netflix in the US in November.
