Netflix orders comedy from Glee team

Global streamer Netflix has ordered a comedy series from Glee collaborators Brad Falchuk, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan.

The Politician, which will reportedly star Barbra Streisand, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Platt, has been commissioned straight to series for two seasons.

According to Deadline in the US, Netflix fought off intense competition from fellow streaming giants Amazon and Hulu to secure the show, which has been dubbed a comedy with “social commentary.”

Details are being kept under wraps but the plot will focus on Platt, who plays an affluent politician.

It will be the second Netflix show on Murphy’s résumé. Last year, the SVoD giant ordered two 18-episode seasons of Ratched, a drama based on the Nurse Ratched character from movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest that Murphy exec produced.

The Politician is the second major commission Murphy and Falchuk have secured in recent weeks, following US cablenet FX’s order for musical dance series Pose at the beginning of January.

Pose, made by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions, will feature the largest cast of transgender actors in regular series roles and is written by co-creators and executive producers Murphy, Falchuk and Steven Canals.
