Byung-Jae was a part of Saturday Night Live Korea for four seasons, as both a writer and cast member, and has subsequently featured in South Korean TV shows including Infinite Challenge and Flower Crew.

Stand-up comedy is a relatively unknown genre in Korea and Netflix’s latest original in the country will mean “a whole new experience for viewers,” the streamer said.

The comedy special will be shot in early 2018 and made available exclusively on Netflix. The firm will also feature Black Comedy, another stand-up special from Byung-Jae, in early 2018.

“Our aim is to partner with the boldest and funniest Korean comedy talent and share the laughter with the world,” said Erik Barmack, VP of international original series at Netflix.

The streaming giant has now ordered numerous shows in South Korea, including an animated series as well as a zombie drama set in medieval times.
