Netflix opens door for Wolf

Michelle Wolf is known for her work on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show

US streamer Netflix has commissioned a weekly half-hour talkshow from The Daily Show comedian Michelle Wolf.

The as-yet untitled show, which will premiere later this year, will “take a break from the seriousness of late-night comedy,” according to the SVoD giant.

“Instead of making the news fun, she’ll make fun of everything and everybody,” a Netflix statement joked. “There will be no preaching or political agenda, unless it’s funny.”

Wolf started her TV career on Late Night with Seth Meyers, in which she had several characters and roles, including ‘Grown-Up Annie.’ For the past four years she has worked on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Trevor Noah as an on-air contributor and writer. She also created and starred in two digital series, Now Hiring and Used People for Comedy Central.

Most recently, HBO released Michelle’s first hour-long stand-up special, Michelle Wolf: Nice Lady. Wolf will exec produce the show through her Cats in Pants label alongside Daniel Bodansky. Dan Powell (Inside Amy Schumer) and Christine Nangle (The President’s Show) will also exec produce and serve as co-showrunners.

“You can expect the types of jokes my former bosses would tell me we couldn’t do on TV,” said Wolf.
