Netflix moves onto Canada’s Frontier

US SVoD service Netflix has picked up Canadian adventure drama Frontier for a 2016 release.

Batman vs Superman star Jason Momoa will star in Frontier

The 6×60’ first season, from creators Rob Blackie and Peter Blackie and director Brad Peyton, will premiere exclusively in Netflix territories outside of Canada.

The programme was commissioned by Discovery Canada earlier this year as its first original scripted series and will premiere on the channel before coming to Netflix Canada in 2018.

Canadian indies Take the Shot Productions and Factory Backwards have started production on the project, which has Batman vs Superman star Jason Momoa cast in the lead.

The series follows the chaotic and violent struggle to control wealth and power in the North American fur trade of the late 18th century.

Told from multiple perspectives, Frontier takes place in a world where business negotiations might be resolved with close-quarter hatchet fights and where delicate relations between Aboriginal tribes and Europeans can spark bloody conflicts.
