Netflix lines up kids reboots

Netflix has expanded its line-up of kids’ original programmes with orders for revamps of classic shows including Inspector Gadget and Danger Mouse.

CGI series Inspector Gadget will be made available to US subscribers in March. Produced by DHX Media, the 26-part programme will join the service at a later date in Latin America, the UK, Ireland, Benelux, France and the Nordics – after the initial TV broadcast in each country.

Netflix has also ordered Danger Mouse, a CBBC reboot of the 1980s UK series, to roll out in spring 2016. The series will feature the voice of British comedian and actor Stephen Fry as Danger Mouse’s boss.

Meanwhile, the US streamer has added live-action series Some Assembly Required, produced by Canada-based Thunderbird Films. The comedy follows a 14-year-old boy who hires a group of friends from school to help him create new toys.

Netflix will premiere the series in all territories this year, except in Canada, where it is currently showing on YTV.

Coming to the platform in spring 2016 is CGI-animated show Bottersnikes & Gumbles. Based on the Australian book series, the 13-episode run has also been commissioned by the BBC and Channel 7 in Australia. The series will debut worldwide on Netflix, with the UK and Australian editions coming at a later date.

Finally, Netflix has ordered Super 4, another CGI-animated series. Due in April, the show is inspired by the Playmobil figures and follows a knight, a pirate and an agent on a series of adventures.
