Netflix harvests extra Orange

Netflix’s Orange is the New Black is said to be its most watched original

Netflix has ordered three more seasons of its original comedy-drama Orange is the New Black.

The US SVoD service has committed to a fifth, sixth and seventh season of the Lionsgate TV-produced programme, which begins its fourth run on June 17.

The renewal also keeps showrunner Jenji Kohan attached for the addition seasons.

Ratings for the show, set in a women’s prison, have always been under wraps but Netflix execs have previously confirmed that it’s the service’s most-watched original.

The order follows Netflix’s commission of a fifth season of its original political drama House of Cards last month. The MRC-produced thriller is regarded, along with Orange, as one of the shows that has spearheaded the Californian streamer’s originals strategy over the last few years.

Netflix has also commissioned shows including Hemlock Grove and the revival of comedy series Arrested Development.
