Netflix builds on Suburra

Netflix has extended Suburra: Blood on Rome, its first Italian original drama, into a second season.

The series is co-financed with Italian pubcaster Rai and is produced by domestic firm Cattleya, which was acquired by ITV last year.

The show, the 10-part first season of which debuted in October, is set in Rome and follows an array of corrupt Vatican advisors, politicians and mobsters as they seek to redevelop an area of the seaside.

The series will again be written by Barbara Petronio and will feature the same cast, with Andrea Molaioli directing.

Netflix added to its Italian slate last year with shows including Baby, about a child prostitution racket, and a docuseries about football team Juventus.
