Netflix bags Being Human

Netflix, whose reps have been in Cannes this week seeking content ahead of a European roll-out of the US online service, has acquired rights to Zodiak Media Group supernatural drama Being Human.

The service has taken streaming rights to all four seasons (totalling 30×60’) of Being Human UK and seasons one and two (totalling 26×60’) of Being Human US, as well as any future seasons of both.

The UK version, made by Zodiak’s Touchpaper Television, goes out on the BBC. Its American incarnation is produced by Zodiak USA for Syfy.

Netflix has had half a dozen reps at Mipcom this week, including chief content officer Ted Sarandos, who on Monday announced the company had picked up new Norwegian drama Lilyhammer for the US, Canada and Latin America. Last week, it bought US premiere rights to big-budget European drama Borgia.

The streamer is loading up on Euro content, not only to offer its domestic users the kind of fare they find hard to get elsewhere, but also to prepare for an anticipated launch in Spain, the UK, Germany and other major European markets shortly.
