Netflix appoints Indian execs

Netflix has further bolstered its senior team by hiring two executives from India following its launch in the country earlier this year.

Gaurav Pradhan, former YouTube India and Southeast Asia product partnerships head, has joined the US SVoD service as director of business development for Asia. He will be based in Singapore.

Prior to his time at YouTube, Pradhan worked in business development for international product partnerships at Google.

Meanwhile, Netflix’s LA office has brought in Swati Shetty, formerly Balaji Telefilms’ motion pictures president and the founder of Samosa Stories Entertainment, for a content acquisitions and original content production role.

Shetty was previously executive director of Walt Disney International Productions India for two years and also spent time as director of India for Disney ABC International TV.

In June, Netflix ordered its first original series from India, a Hindi- and English-language adaptation of Vikram Chandra novel Sacred Games. The company is currently investing heavily in original content in the region, while global streaming rival Amazon confirmed last month it was also launching in the country.

Netflix’s Indian launch Netflix marked the start of its 2016 global roll-out into a further 130 countries.

In May, the streaming service hired Anthony Zameczkowski as VP of business development for Asia Pacific.
