Nelvana to launch Asian toon

Canada’s Nelvana Enterprises will launch three animated properties in Cannes next month, including a Japanese series reworked for the Western market.

Paboo & Molies (52×11′) is about a magical land where “letters and learning combine to create laughter for all,” and features a fun-loving panda and his larger-than-life friends. It first broadcast on Fuji TV.

Japanese firms Sega and Daewon coproduced the show, with the former holding rights in Japan and the latter taking rights elsewhere in Asia. Corus Entertainment-owned Nelvana is reversioning the show and has rights for the rest of the world.

Nelvana is also launching Oh No! (52×11′), which comes from Philippe Ivanusic-Vallee and Peter Ricq, who were part of the creative team behind Nerd Corp Entertainment’s League of Super Evil. The new series follows a group of children in a world where all the adults have been snatched by group of crazy aliens.

Rounding off Nelvana’s slate are two Franklin & Friends specials, titled Pole to Pole and Under the Sea. Nelvana produces the Franklin franchise in-house and a TV series based on the turtle character launched on Treehouse TV in Canada last year and Nickelodeon in the US in February.
