NBCU to shutter Seeso

Seeso original My Brother, My Brother & Me

NBCUniversal (NBCU) has confirmed it is shutting down its comedy-focused SVoD service Seeso.

Confirmation of Seeso’s closure later this year comes after NBCU cut staff at the streamer in June following the departure of Evan Shapiro, who had been overseeing it.

An announcement on Seeso’s Facebook page stated that certain original shows, such as HarmonQuest, My Brother, My Brother & Me, Hidden America with Jonah Ray and The Cyanide & Happiness Show would be available on VRV.

The firm added that announcements about the future of other projects, such as the forthcoming original There’s…Johnny!, would follow soon.

Seeso launched in 2016 and offers an array of NBC comedy programming including Saturday Night Live, as well as acquisitions such as UK show Flowers, and original productions.

It costs users US$3.99 a month and is overseen by Maggie Suniewick, president of NBCU Digital Enterprises.

The service is also home to an array of classic and cult UK comedies, including Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Alan Partridge, Nathan Barley, The Mighty Boosh and Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place.
